Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Patriot Health Plans real insurance?
Yes. Patriot plans are fully insured PPO and MEC health insurance plans underwritten by major carriers. They are not discount cards or indemnity plans. They use real national networks including Cigna OAP, Multiplan PHCS, and Anthem Blue Card.
Can I really enroll any time of year?
Yes — unlike ACA marketplace plans, Patriot plans have open enrollment throughout the year. You can start coverage on the 1st of any month, as long as you enroll by the 18th of the prior month.
What's the difference between the PPO and MEC plans?
The MEC (Minimum Essential Coverage) plan is our lowest-cost option. It includes hospital in-patient and surgical benefits, and has a $0 deductible but with visit limits. The PPO plans offer more comprehensive coverage with higher benefit limits and are a closer equivalent to traditional employer coverage.
Is there a medical exam required to enroll?
There's no medical exam, but Patriot PPO and Blue Cross plans do require brief medical underwriting for initial acceptance. The MEC plans have no medical underwriting.
How much does it cost to work with NY Small Group Plans?
Nothing. Our services are completely free to you. We're compensated by the insurance carrier — so you get experienced, personalized guidance at no extra cost. You will not pay more by using us than going direct.
